The biggest question that parents seem concerned with when it comes to cloth diapering is washing the diapers. As a parent who has been cloth diapering for two and a half years, let me assure you that it's no big deal!
Wash & Care
Changing the diaper:
Remove the diaper from your child
Knock any solid waste into the toilet (you may wish to use a diaper sprayer for this task, but it is not necessary)
Remove the insert if you are using a pocket diaper
Place the soiled items in a laundry bag
On laundry day:
Empty your laundry bag into the washing machine
Put your laundry bag in there too
Do a cold rinse (this helps stains from setting)
Do a hot wash - use only 1/3 of the amount of detergent you would normally use for a load that size
If your washer doesn't automatically follow with a rinse, do a rinse cycle
Tumble in the dryer on medium heat
You may wish to "stuff" the inserts back into the diapers so they are ready to use
Things you need to know!
Do NOT use diaper rash creams - if you need to use a cream, be sure to use a liner to prevent contact
Do NOT use bleach
Do NOT use fabric softeners
Be sure to use an appropriate detergent. No optical brighteners or softeners.
Failure to follow these points can lead to build up on your diapers, which leads to poor diaper performance.
